Silent Night was one of the first fingerstyle arrangements I ever learned. Ten years ago around this time I practised it diligently until, on 11 December 2011, I published a blog postabout it. I remember how hard I struggled to work out how the chords and melody should fit together, choose the fingering and memorise the whole thing. And of course I have never forgotten it since; I play it very often because I love this song.

When you practise and listen to music a lot, you inevitably start thinking about how an arrangement could be made even better. That happened to me with this song too. I noticed that in some arrangements, at the climactic point where G7 would normally appear, a diminished seventh chord is used instead. It makes the sound even more elevated and solemn, so I worked out how to reproduce that on ukulele. Here is the video I made about it.
