Welcome to Ukulele.hu, home of the Hungarian Ukulele Blog, launched in 2010. The website was created to bring the Hungarian ukulele community together and to serve as a reliable source of information for everyone interested in the ukulele.
We hope our blog posts inspire more people to make music and learn an instrument. Our articles and tutorial videos also speak to complete beginners, so you can confidently start learning the ukulele without any previous musical training. From choosing your first instrument and getting to know it to learning your first chords, we guide readers through the main stages of learning the ukulele.
We also organise ukulele meetups and ukulele courses so that ukulele players can meet in person and experience the joy of making music together. We also bring the ukulele to corporate events as a playful team-building programme that introduces this wonderful and increasingly popular instrument.
Enjoy exploring the site. We hope everyone finds the ukulele that feels just right and that our articles help along the learning journey. If you have any questions about learning or buying a ukulele, feel free to contact us.

I have no musical background, but I would still like to play an instrument. Is that a good idea?
Absolutely. There is no upper age limit for learning to make music, even if you have never studied music before. Learning an instrument does not necessarily mean mastering advanced music theory. If your goal is simply to learn to play the ukulele for enjoyment, you can do so without any previous musical knowledge.
Choosing the ukulele opens the door to a wonderful new world, and many people soon find themselves thinking, “I wish I had started earlier.” Like any learning process, learning music has its challenging moments — for example when a new chord still refuses to cooperate after the tenth attempt — but the effort pays off many times over.
So yes — absolutely yes. Whatever your age, learning to play is a very good idea, and I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a try.
In addition to the articles and videos on this site, I also recommend our ukulele courses to anyone who would like to learn the ukulele.
If I decide to learn an instrument, why should I choose a ukulele?
There are many good reasons to choose a ukulele. One of the most important is that, compared with many other instruments, it is relatively quick to learn and rewarding early on. With instruments such as piano or violin it can take many months — often years — before you can play in a way that is enjoyable for others as well. With a ukulele, you can reach the point of accompanying a few songs for yourself, your family or friends within a month or two of regular practice. It is also comparatively affordable: a basic setup consisting of a ukulele, case and tuner does not require the kind of investment many other instruments do.
At ukulele meetups you can also get to know other players and experience the joy of making music together even as a beginner.
