Pachelbel's Canon in D - How to Play It
The Pachelbel Brothers are on a world tour, but before they left we managed to persuade their ukulele player to reveal the secret recipe behind their canon .
The piece is worth learning not only because wedding planners will be demanding our services from now on, but also because it makes an excellent warm-up before playing the ukulele. It has an easy chord (A major), a finger-twisting chord (G major), an extra-finger chord (D major), an index-finger-cramping chord (B minor), and a now-my-fingers-are-completely-confused chord (F#m), so it really does exercise our fingers in every possible direction. It may also happen that we are walking past a ukulele shop and the friend with us says, "Come on, play something!" That is exactly when the mind tends to go blank. But if we remember these few chords, we can easily show off our ukulele virtuosity.
It may not be immediately obvious, but in the video I am not playing my "usual" ukulele, but a very similar one. This little beauty is Kala's premium concert-size model made from koa, and I will write a few words about it in the next post.
