The cucumber season is slowly ending, and ukulele season is here again! (Sorry...) I hope you are not tired of the Beatles yet; I never seem able to tire of their songs. I made a special arrangement of I Feel Fine, which was released in 1964. From 12 December 1964 it spent five weeks at the top of the UK music chart.

One interesting feature, among many, is the very beginning of the song, which is an effect created by amplifier feedback. While they were rehearsing in the studio, Lennon moved his guitar close to the amplifier and this sound appeared. It caught everyone's attention, and they decided to begin the recording with it. Another interesting thing — at least to me — is that the song contains only four chords, yet it is put together so well that it is anything but boring: inventive, energetic and full of atmosphere. The verses alternate between D major, C major and G major, with B minor added in the bridge.

I like this song so much that I persuaded my twin brothers to sit down with me and play it as a trio. The version of me on the left plays the chord accompaniment, the one in the middle plays the guitar line that complements the vocal melody, and the one on the right plays the vocal melody itself.

I Feel Fine – The Beatles

Intro: [D] [C] [G] [G]

[G]Baby's good to me, you know,
she's happy as can be, you know, she [D]said so.
I'm in love with [C7]her and I feel fi[G]ne.
[G]Baby says she's mine, you know,
she tells me all the time, you know, she [D]said so.
I'm in love with [C7]her and I feel fi[G]ne.

[G]I'm so [Hm]glad that [C]she's my little [D7]girl.
[G]She's so [Hm]glad, she's [C7]telling all the [D7]world.

That her [G]baby buys her things, you know,
he buys her diamond rings, you know, she [D]said so.
[D7]She's in love with [C7]me and I feel fi[G]ne.

Flight DUC-525

I recently had the chance to try a very attractive concert-size ukulele, the Flight DUC-525. The natural colour of the wood is beautiful, and I think the combination of spruce and zebrawood looks excellent…
