Kati was kind enough to lend me a fantastic Ohana ukulele for a few days, a rather rare creature here in Hungary. That is not surprising: these are firmly high-end ukuleles and therefore not cheap. I was delighted to have the chance to try an Ohana with a pineapple-shaped concert-size body and a solid spruce top, although I would happily have welcomed almost any other Ohana too.

As I say in the video, it is like a little jewelry box. The workmanship is incredibly refined and essentially flawless. The body shape felt slightly unusual to me because I am accustomed to larger-bodied ukuleles, so while strumming I found myself holding on to it quite firmly. It sounds excellent; even softly strummed chords ring beautifully. Do not look for the strap buttons that are becoming standard on many modern ukuleles, but it does come with a wonderful factory hard case.

After this short description comes an equally short audiovisual introduction. I must confess that I originally played Autumn Leaves on it, but the performance did not turn out particularly well — and unfortunately I had no time to make another recording — so I eventually left it out of the video. It is a fairly difficult song, and I have become very accustomed to the "distances" on a tenor ukulele. On this concert-size neck I missed a few notes cleanly during some of the larger position shifts. I will record it again on another ukulele .
