This restringing video arrived very late compared with the launch of the blog — you only had to wait about nine and a half years for it. One reason is that, slightly embarrassingly, I do not have a huge amount of experience restringing ukuleles. The other is that I am one of those people who do not change strings particularly often. I do it only when I notice while playing that the ukulele sounds weak and dull, and even stronger strums no longer produce much dynamic response. One of my ukuleles had finally reached that point. I had played it a great deal, often used a capo on it, and the strings had begun to wear thinner around the frets and no longer sounded good.

The next picture shows the individual steps of restringing. I made one fewer pass through the tie than shown in steps 6–7–8–9 — that is how I normally do it — but the attachment at the bridge is still completely secure:

I decided to dream big and filmed the whole string-changing project. In the background you can hear birds singing, children playing and everything else that belongs to a beautiful spring day. So I carried out the operation in my own simple way, hoping I could help by showing you step by step what goes where and how. I am sure some of you have far more restringing experience than I do, and I hope I did not make any major blunders in the video. In any case, I think the result turned out quite well, and the ukulele's sound finally came back to life. Here, then, is my video on how to restring a ukulele:
